Greetings fellow health enthusiasts!
After a long, heartfelt contemplation, the battle for the first blog post was ultimately won by the coconut palm seed, or in other words: the Coconut!
Did you know that a “coconut” is actually a seed!? I know, right? And here you are all along thinking that it is a fruit! *ahem* Oh silly you.
To understand the coconut, imagine everything that the seed needs to have in order to branch out into a single, beautiful palm tree. Are large amounts of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) coming to your mind? Good, I thought so. Animal-based products, such as dairy and meats, contain a much longer chain of triglycerides (LCTs), that are usually stored for a longer period of time. MCTs are metabolized faster and are often seen as little weight loss helpers when it comes to nutrition.
Unfortunately, Western civilizations are barely adjusting to the new known superfood within their diet but other civilizations, like in The Philippines and Mexico, have long been using coconuts for a variety of purposes such as; medicine, nutrition, longevity, etc.
Coconut products range from; oil, milk, flour, and water, to hair products, skin creams and even cocktails! (Yum!) Together they hold a long list of beneficial aspects like;
- fat loss
- improves brain function
- energy increase
- lowers risk of heart disease
- high in antioxidants
- controls hunger
- protects damaged hair
- helps moisturize skin
I encourage you all to incorporate products that contain coconut into your diet. Try out the coconut infused moisturizer over the non-scent lotion. Or perhaps, if you’re a baker, baking with coconut oil and coconut flour might help you see the benefits over the deadly vegetable oils and 100% all purpose flour!
